Due to recent weather and poor trail conditions, the following is offered as a substitute for the planned AT hike:
Hike 7 to 9 miles on the Capital Crescent Trail
$3, trailhead hike.
Get rid of your cabin fever by joining us for a (relatively flat) hike on the Capital Crescent Trail. We will begin in Bethesda and follow the trail into Georgetown, where it joins the towpath along the C&O canal. There will be 2 options for finishing -- by walking over the Key Bridge into Rosslyn to pick up the Blue/Orange Line Metro, or continuing on M Street through Georgetown to Wisconsin Avenue and then P Street, to finish at the Dupont Circle Metro (Red Line). Opportunities for a post-hike lunch/snack/drink are available in Rosslyn, Georgetown, or Dupont Circle.
Be forewarned: While some melting is expected to occur by Saturday morning, this trail is still likely to be very messy, possibly icy in spots. Waterproof boots, hiking poles, and yak trax are strongly encouraged!
Meet at the Barnes & Noble bookstore (4801 Bethesda Avenue) at 9:00 a.m., in order to get organized, take a headcount, and depart by 9:15 a.m.
